Eastview Little League Coronavirus FAQ's

How EVLL is Responding to the Coronavirus

 Updated 3/1/2021

The Eastview Little League (EVLL) board is actively monitoring guidance around the coronavirus from our local school districts, throughout San Pedro, Little League International, State of California and Los Angeles County.

The following frequently asked questions details our current response to the COVID-19 situation, and will be updated with new information as it becomes available.

WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATE OF THE 2021 SPRING SEASON?

Currently, we are in the widespread tier (purple) which allows for physical conditioning, practice, skill-building, and training conducted outdoors, with 6 feet of physical distancing, and within stable cohorts. Once we reach the substantial tier (red) we can resume playing games. We will have a camp style environment until we are allowed to play games.

WHAT STEPS IS THE LEAGUE TAKING TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF ITS PLAYERS AND VOLUNTEERS?

We have developed a comprehensive plan to resume Little League Baseball activities while protecting and supporting our players’ health, practice social distancing, limit large gatherings, and minimize risks of COVID-19.

It includes guidance around the use of shared equipment, sanitization, face coverings and modified practices to adhere to social distancing requirements. All participants must review and be familiar with the protocols. In addition, training sessions will be held for all volunteers and participants. This plan will be a living document and updated as changes are made to current guidelines.

WHEN WILL GAMES BE ALLOWED?

The State considers baseball to be an outdoor moderate contact sport and has assigned it the second lowest risk level for youth recreational activities. As a result, recently released guidance indicates baseball games can be played in Los Angeles County when the county returns to the red tier according to the state’s tiered system of COVID test positivity and case rate. It is possible that the county does not return to the red tier before the end of the 2021 spring/summer season. The current state guidelines are available here

WILL THERE BE EVALUATIONS AND A DRAFT?

Yes, for the Upper Divisions (Minor and Major Divisions) we will have player evaluations will be scheduled in mid-April.  Final Dates will be released as soon as possible.

We are in the process of creating a sign-up page to allow families to select a player evaluation time that best suits their schedule. We are planning as if games will be played, so our competitive divisions need to have balanced teams through a draft process.

WHEN WILL THE SEASON START?

Practices for drafted divisions will start the first week of April. Currently, we are planning to start playing games on Saturday, May 15, 2021 for these divisions. For the lower divisions, we are planning to start playing games on Saturday, May 15, 2021. These dates are all subject to change.

WHEN WILL THE SEASON END?

Closing day is scheduled for the end of August.  Depending on if and when games are allowed, the season could potentially be extended beyond this time.

HOW DO YOU DETERMINE THE REGISTRATION FEES?

Spring is our primary season, and thus the fees need to cover both the league’s seasonal costs as well as the ongoing costs of running the league. We work hard on keeping the cost as low as possible through various fundraising activities such as business sponsorships, gift basket auction, restaurant nights, etc. Your registration fees can be broken down as:

Seasonal Expenses

  • Player Uniform (jersey and hat)
  • Pictures
  • Trophies/ medals
  • Equipment and balls
  • Little League International fees
  • District 27 fees
  • Insurance
  • Cost of background checks
  • Umpires
  • Opening and Closing ceremonies

Ongoing Expenses:

  • Field maintenance
  • Website maintenance
  • Email list maintenance
  • Utilities (water, electricity, internet, trash and sewer)
  • Accounting costs
  • Tax filing costs
  • Marketing costs
  • Training costs
  • Office Supplies

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO PICTURE DAY?

Picture Day will be modified to ensure only one team is on the field for pictures at any one time, and is currently planned TBD.
